Vermont's Open Studio Weekend is a very popular statewide event held
each Memorial Day weekend during which about 200 Vermont
craftspeople and artists open their studios to the public for
demonstrations of their work and sales. In many cases, this is an
opportunity to see some working studios that are not normally

Featuring importers, wine makers, and representatives for some of the
world's finest vineyars showcasing over 250 wines. Seminars by celebrity
vintners and master sommeliers. Tickets include 15 wine tasting tickets, a
souvenir wine glass, a restaurant food token, admission to food and wine
seminars, unlimited Vermont artisan breads and cheeses, all accompanied
by live jazz music. Light fare including raw bar, artisan cheese and breads,
and more.  There are two sessions: one from noon to 4:00 pm, and the
other from 5:00 to 9:00 pm.

Admission: $50 per person. Additional wine tasting tickets may be
purchased for $1.00/wine. Additional restaurant tokens may be purchased
for $5.00/plate. Age 21+ positive ID required.

New England's Oldest and Largest Quilt Event
Selected as a Top Ten Summer event by the Vermont Chamber of
Commerce. Exhibits, workshops, lectures, appraisals, merchants mall,
kids programs. One of the largest quilt shows in the northeast. More than
400 quilts in two buildings: antique quilt section, works by the festival
teachers, and special exhibits. Leading the way is a judged show with
some 180 quilts entered in the annual contest. From the youngest
beginner to the most practiced expert, contestants provide something for
every taste, from the most traditional to the avant-garde. Also, there are
daily gallery talks about some of the principal exhibits. The curators or
other knowledgeable Festival staff will offer informal 30 to 45 minutes talks
once or twice each day and answer questions about the quilts. Classes
begin June 23.

For one weekend in July, Waterbury VT's historic Stowe Street is closed to traffic so artists, musicians, dancers, and appreciators of good eats and fine art can take over. The weekend includes a wide variety of Vermont artist exhibitors, artist demonstrations, kids? activities, live music, food and much, much more.

The 2011 Stowe Street Arts Festival event will take place Friday, July 15, with live music from 7pm to 8:30pm & then Saturday, July 16, 10 am to 4pm and is supported in part by an award from the Vermont Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Beer Festivals by USA Today. The Vermont Brewers Festival is the longest
running outdoor brewers festival in the East, and it's no wonder since Vermont

Vermont Cheesemakers Festival

In little ole Vermont, there are more than 40 cheesemakers from famous Cabot cheese to tiny artisan cheesemakers. They've banded together to form the Vermont Cheese Council.

Each year, the Council, along with Vermont Butter and Cheese Creamery, and Shelburne Farms, puts on a one day event where visitors can meet cheesemakers, try their products (more than 100 varierties!), purchase Vermont cheese, sample wine and beer from 20 wineries and breweries, attend seminars, watch cooking demonstrations, see how cheese is made, and dine at the tasting dinner. The festival is the ?one-of-a-kind East Coast cheese event of the year.? NOTE: this event is very popular and sells out early - order tickets now!

Vermont is the premium artisanal cheese state with the highest number of cheesemakers per capita: over 40 of them! Taste local and fresh foods and wines, and meet the artisans who make them. Spend a high summer day along the shores of Lake Champlain at the magnificent Shelburne Farms Coach Barn sampling, buying, learning, and networking.

Green Mountain Club

Waterbury Tourism Council member, the Green Mountain Club maintains the
famous Long Trail which runs the length of Vermont. The club's headquaters
is on Route 100 in Watebury Center. It is an excellent source of information
about hiking throughout Vermont and offers many books and maps of the
trails in the state.

ECHO Aquarium and Science Center, open year around

Located at the Leahy Center for Lake Champlain, Burlington lake front. Echo
has 60 species of fish, a hundred hands-on exhibits, theater. An excellent place
to take children where they will be entertained for hours.

John Kimmich, brewmaster and co-owner of The Alchemist pub with his wife Jen, has bottled two beers that survived flooding from Tropical Storm Irene. He will be selling them at the site of the now-gutted pub, 23 South Main, Waterbury VT. The beers are Heretic, an American double IPA, and Luscious, a British-inspired Imperial Stout. Also, don't miss the chance to get Alchemist's new "Hell or High Water" T-shirt. Sales from these items will help finance the repairs needed to get the pub open again.

While John has been working on bottling beer, wife Jen has been busy organizing the Waterbury Harvest Festival. It will be on Stowe Street in downtown Waterbury, just around the corner from the Alchemist. Stowe Street will be closed to traffic so people can enjoy music, food, kids' activities, dunk tank, local artisits. From 11am to 3pm.
